The Myrtue Medical Center offers a wide range of medical services through Myrtue Memorial Hospital and the Harlan Medical Clinic, and Behavioral Health Department, the Shelby Medical Clinic, the Avoca Medical Clinic and the Elk Horn Medical Clinic.
The hospital became a Critical Care Access Hospital and all clinics gained designation as Rural Health Clinics in the fall of 2005.

The Myrtue Medical Center houses eight physicians and three physicians assistants and one nurse practitioners with room for an additional four physicians. Satellite clinics are also located in Elk Horn, Shelby and Avoca in Pottawattamie County.
Elk Horn’s Salem Lutheran Home – is a 156-bed group home, with 56 beds devoted to residential, 10 for skilled care, 10 for Alzheimer care and 80 nursing beds.
Harlan’s Elm Crest Retirement Center recently underwent a massive remodeling and construction effort. It now offers studio and one bedroom residential and assisted living apartments, an Alzheimers Care Unit, as well as a licensed nursing home. – has a 52-member staff which cares for 62 residents it’s licensed intermediate care facility.
Earling’s Little Flower Haven is a licensed intermediate care facility with a 52-member staff caring for 62 residents.
